From St. Augustine, leg pain that comes on with walking and eases when you sit or lean forward is at least as common as classic sciatica. It points to stenosis, not a single pinched nerve, and it is treated differently. The examination tells them apart.

This page covers the practical side of coming from St. Augustine. For the medicine, see what causes sciatica and how we treat it.

How it works

How many trips it usually takes.

  1. 01

    Visit one: about an hour

The examination maps which nerve root is involved, and your MRI is read with you to see whether it shows a cause at that level. If you have not had an MRI yet, the examination decides whether you need one.

  2. 02

The injection, where the nerve root is the source

An epidural injection placed under live X-ray at the level and side involved, in this office. Most injections take a few minutes.

  3. 03

    Follow-up

A short visit. If the injection helped, it can be repeated when needed. If it did not help at all, that is a reason to revisit the diagnosis rather than repeat it.
